MENTAL HEALTH

Proven Caring and Passionate Leadership

Our children are dealing with more and more in our society.   Our schools must be safe places for them to go to attend.  Our staff need to be equipped to handle the increasing needs in their classroom.  The role of the educator has expanded dramatically in the last number of years.

WHY LEAH

The GVSD board after talking to the local teachers union and school leadership has identified that mental health is a critical piece to our educational puzzle.  The current board believes that good mental health is vital, so much so that this board has included it in their strategic plan.  What does this mean?  It means that the board has committed to providing resources to our students and staff mental health needs.  We have only just begun this conversation on what this means for GVSD, but I believe its one we need to continue.

In my 12 years on the GVSD board, I have had the opportunity to participate in three extensive strategic planning sessions (held every four years after an election) that set the direction of the division.  By listening to understand and learning from the experts in the room, the board is able to determine what the division's educational team and community need.
